The once-derelict Newstead railway station has been reclaimed and renovated to become a thriving Arts Hub that celebrates the region’s abundant creativity and culture. A beautiful, multi-room exhibition space, Newstead Arts Hub offers a diverse gallery program that includes regular events and workshops informed by the local and broader creative communities.

As part of the Tiny Towns Arts Trail, Newstead Arts Hub is featuring an exhibition of works by  Maldon artist, Sean Kenan. Sean’s training in graphic design and his enduring interest in drawing and woodcarving led him to experiment with scratchboard, where a thin surface of clay is applied to a board and covered with a layer of Indian Ink. The veneer of ink is subsequently scratched back to reveal the white layer underneath.

Visually reminiscent of etchings and block prints, the use of a limited black and white palette gives Sean’s delightful and often quirky art a powerful visual impact.
